Axle rebuild info

I appear to have some useful information in my GM Servicd Training Manual for my Mk1 Cav - that should be the same, shouldn’t it?

I will take a photo of each associated page and put them up later for you.

Fingers crossed, they contain what you need.

Thanks

No problem. You will need to print them as some are the wrong way up as i just scanned them in as they were :-) let me know if you need anything else from it.

Does anyone have an Opel workshop manual with axle rebuild info i.e. Setting up pinion preload/torque settings etc?

Going to get the axle on the bench this week so any info would be appreciated:thumbup

I have a original Ascona/Manta A workshop manual that has the full axel rebuild in it. I think this is the full set of pages but i can double check if its any good to you?

Helpful info for club members, biffy how about an axle build thread!

What happened? Dare i ask :o

I would do an axle build thread but have maxed out my picture attachments on the forum and for some stupid reason I can't seem to delete any to free up space so no more pics from me I'm afraid:angry:

It's been grumbling and pissing me off for years, stripped it tonight to find the pinion has been shimmed too far back for the teeth have been coming in contact with the diff casing and chewed the ends of the pinion teeth....oops!!

Looks like a complicated and time consuming task to rebuild it properly but I have the full kit of new bearings/shims/crush washer/donut/torque tube bearing etc so I'll take my time when setting it all up and hopefully I'll not have to open it up again for a very long time:rolleyes:

Only way of deleting pictures i've found is to go to the trhead with the picture and edit the post itself and delete them from it there. Pain in the butt way of doing it, all we need is a delete button when viewing the Attachments page

Get a very big bar to go on the torque wrench as doing up that crush washer to the torque they say it hard work :-) Did mine many years back as it was making a noise and its not that hard to setup, just hard to do that nut up!!!

Funny as both axles I've stripped had shims behind the inner bearing carrier so I just assumed they were meant to be there. It also says in the Opel workshop manual to adjust your pinion height by adding/removing the appropriate number of shims behind the inner bearing carrier.

Hmmm i always drop my axles off to be built at a local specialist, so i haven't taken those out myself. But i have never seen them listed anywhere which is why i didn't know they existed. Still learning things after all these years
