Recommended Posts

Sounds like a nice one. More so in Dolphin Grey. One of the original Irmscher batch.

Sadly no photos:  https://www.gumtree.com/p/opel/opel-manta-gte-exclusive/1283420880

'.....Dolphin grey Opel manta 2.0 gte exclusive coupe. Absolutely excellent condition D registered Jan 1987. I am the 2nd owner from new. New paint in 2012 , has not been on the road since 2003, deciding to sell due to lack of use but no hurry to sell. Never welded underbody is perfect. Difficult to find another like this one. Car is completely original ,never been modified in any way. For those who know mantas , the tray in front of the radiator is still the same as the day it left the showroom. Will come with a years test. Excellent number suits the car D400 .... Any questions please text as email is having issues at the moment. No agencies , only for an enthuasist . No offers. Viewing inspection welcome.....'

Pictures would be nice! Why do people try and sell anything without bloody pictures. 🤭

I have to agree. More so when he is asking £20K for it! No mention of mileage either or any other pertinent info.

£20K....... Hmmmm. Ive said it before, but as the OMOC I think we should take charge of what a Manta is actually worth. It's Great that cars are coming up at these prices, but is it a real price or a hope to get? As I was restoring my car last year price were going up quite dramatically. I now have agreed insurance value for 10K.

Do you think it would be wise for the committee to arrange a price guide to set average UK prices for each model with it's variants IE 1.8S, GT/J Etc. Etc. and base this on condition and rarity? I know it would be a bit of work but it might give us an idea of what are cars are actually worth.

Thats the lowest mileage i have seen on a manta yet, been restored or at least painted b4, i think 20 K still seems a bit heavy but i aint no expert to judge and also with no photos its even more difficult to decide whether the car is worth it or not.

Found it strange there is no photos as stated already, and no email, what can go wrong with your email address?

Gents, The car is my car, I been deliberating a while as to whether to sell this car, once its gone I cant get another like it.  I been a member on and off over the years , there are posts somewhere that I have mentioned the mileage and condition of the car are possibly archived. There are pictures there also. The condition of the car is genuine as is the mileage.I been asked many many times to sell it by various people local to me. How much do you ask for ? is a good question , its been a part of my life for so long , that's what it would take for me to part with it. May not be its true value , either way low or high. The car is only worth whats its worth to a person wanting it, its got to be right for me to sell it also. What makes an escort, nova, 205 so valuable, why not a manta? I am based in Aberdeen , I know people like Jock , Craig and Rab , are probably aware of the car, Mike ,Andy, Jim are guys who can vouch for its present condition.

Email is a problem for me at the moment , trying to get my account unlocked is proving to be a pain.

All the best with the sale Gerry,

the exclusive is totally standard, never been altered or modified, 100% original and straight, with original miles, never seen a welder and maintained to the highest of standards. It condition is as it was when it was purchased new back in 1987, a credit to it’s owners. There will be other immaculate exclusive coupes out there but I would imagine they would be few and far between so I would definitely put this one in the category “Try find another”

It’s worth what somebody is willing to pay. It’s hard to set prices really.

Are you sure you really want to part with it? I'm not sure I would, even for £20K or whatever. It does look very nice. More so given the low mileage. I'd be getting rid of the 2nd GT/E decal on the spoiler however.

Do you still own the other two? The E plate 400R looks equally nice. I notice it's currently MOT'd etc.

As for prices, you might find this of interest:

Good luck with the sale gerry, worth every penny of 20k,  Why did you choose not to advertise it on omoc?

price guide would be good, but it would never happen.

if a restored manta is advertised at sub 10k, surely this is a worthwhile price at 20k. Again.......... try finding another one! Very nice car.

It has been painted so some would say it’s not original. It personally doesn’t bother me but I would be interested why it had to have paint with the miles? Lacquer peel?

Thanks for the feedback from you all . The car being painted was a really hard decision to make, I pondered for ages , I can put anybody in touch with the painter in Fraserburgh who I am sure would verify what I am saying. Lacquer peel wasn’t an issue. Each panel had minor blemishes that really were minor. There were 2 stone chips on the front 4 slot that had been touched up by my father in law. The bumper front had a hairline mark passenger side , the lacquer on the boot topside had dulled for some reason, there were a couple of chips on the rear quarters, all said and done when I took advice from my painter , we were afraid that any paint repairs would not match , so the decision was made to go a full respray, as it happened , Scott from Huntly at the time had a complete set of original exclusive decals, which by good fortune Scott gave to me as he knew how much it mattered to me. also I am glad to say I also took the opportunity to remove the 2nd gte decal , so the pics you are seeing are pre paint I.e before 2012 . Scott was a chap on here who started a tread about his restoration and was building a 400r at the time after seeing mine. Incidentally the car was bought from Sandy Thain  near Inverurie when he was the main Opel dealer back in the day .

The reason I chose to advertise on gumtree was because I have been asked to sell by various people outwith the club who also appreciate what it is. To be fair to everyone who asked me to sell , I decided to advertise somewhere where it would be fair for all to find and you guys have found the add as well . I appreciate that my price may cause a stir in the community  of manta owners , but I am very proud and passionate about the marque ,growing up in Ireland is where my love affair with Opel started.  I know that letting go this car I won’t be able to get another like it, I also admit that one day we all have to part with our treasures that we cherish, I hope if a new owner comes along this time , they will enjoy it as much as I have.  One day when possibly your turn comes to make the decision I am making now "............ I don’t think it will be easy either . The car may not sell now /this time , I will take my chance and enjoy it for however long more I have it.  I appreciate the people who have pm,d and supported me here.

Rgds

Yes there are good mantas for  sale.

But let' not forget  half of them have  been ramped up and bull shitted  up by people  who haven't  got a clue of which there are some  on this forum  who I know of .(They think they have ).But believe me  they haven't

Hope you do make £20k Gerry, it would set a new bench mark for Mantas, which woukld be good for Mantas in general, people would go to greater lengths to save more of them which would make it viable to create reproduction parts improving the parts situation for all of us.

It has given me food for thought with my 31,000 mile hatch, 52,000 mile R reg coupe, at the very least the agreed value needs an increase.

Perspective:  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/An-Incredible-Early-MK2-Vauxhall-Astra-GTE-16v-9K-Miles-RESERVED/222761700676?hash=item33dda1cd44:g:9GAAAOSwY~laOOuy

And well said Gerry, now i hope you never get to thinking, i wish id never sold.......... nuff said, good luck with the sale.

The way i look at it average manta exc, 7k- 8k, then pay for it to be welded, get it painted again! For the 2nd 4th time, tired engine maybe  100k miles, tired suspension, polybush it, tired interior, what ave u got in the end, after two years, a bigged up manta fresh but tired, after spending 10k for this little lot, we all must be mad.......

ur 20k makes sense!  As does the 30k  redtop astra, with its silly little flaws

I note the 16V Astra you link to above is now reserved. Whether it sold for the asking price is another matter, but it does make your argument above make a lot of sense. The fact that it's had a top notch respray 5 years ago may well be no bad thing. It may be better than the original factory finish! ....and it's 25 years fresher.

If I had a spare £20K I'd be seriously tempted!

20k for what? a car thats advertised with zero photos?

I really dont understand this, a manta advertised with nothing more than an old photo of the front end before the car was repainted...this makes no sense to me whatsoever..

Email problems has nothing to do with uploading photos to gumtree either...all seems odd to me.
