I started a topic in the introduction area a while ago and thought it's about time I started one in the correct place. I also got a new picture from the guys building it that I just had to share.

I'll include the original pictures from the first topic and add new ones after the 4th of November, when me and the wife are going down to see the car and sort out some things. At that time I'll also scan in some old hardcopy pictures from the body kit fitting I found in a drawer the other day.

Specs so far:

The car started as a 2.0 GTE Coupé in black with a sunroof.

Bodykit : Mattig Super Extreme wide arch with optional new lights but without the optional bonnet

Full roll cage and additional chassis strengthening

Engine: Edelbrock supercharged 350ci fuel injected small block Chevy V8

Link to the catalogue: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/mc/crate-engines/chevy-519.shtml

5 Speed manual transmission to custom built rear end (prop, LSD, axle, rear disc brakes etc)

Bilstien front shocks and custom 450lb springs

Power steering kit and clear indicator lenses from club members

Removed door handles and locks

New fuel tank in the boot

3 piece Image split rims 11x15 front and 13x15 rear

Yokhama AVS tyres 285/40/15 front and 345/35/15 rear (might be replacing these soon after the cars is finished even though they have 0 miles on them due to their age)

Calibra turbo calipers, Cosworth discs and matching pads, from another club member.

Still to be done:

Main build finished at Hauser, exhaust, modded bonnet the list goes on....

Mot work/prep

Security

New gauges and interior

A mild sound system

A new paint job, same colour

The latest picture that got us both drooling...

These are the pictures from the original intro topic:

edit: Ok I lied, I added another engine picture

The dummy V8 in place for fitting purposes, you can see the welding for engine mounts, chassis rail/bulkhead mods if you squint. Apparently they are cutting even more out of the bulkhead last time I spoke to them.

A pic in the workshop showing how far back they are mounting the new engine to make room for SC pulleys, big radiator etc

A pic of the crate engine going in once the work on fitting the dummy is finished

Woooooo, wide wheels.... out of interest.......what wheel bearings do you use?

Offset is massive,

Super project car, massive foot print

Me and a friend changed the bearings for new when the bodykit and wheels were added. I'm hoping they'll suffice for now...same goes for the 4 stud instead of 5 stud wheels, which as a new axle was made I could have had altered but then I'd need new wheel inners.

If the standard ones can't cope I'll bite the bullet and try something else.

Why do you ask, are the standard ones a bit iffy/unlikely to cope? any info is welcome.

'Extreme' describes everything not just the body kit :D:thumbup. Well done for persevering .

Agreed, when I saw the bodykit for the first time in Fast Car magazine circa 1995 I knew it had to have an engine to match the look.

@Kevin

Is your cossy manta nearly on the road then? I looked into your topic (I think it was the right one anyway) and you were working on the rear axle.

Took me a while to get round to it, but I've finally got some more pictures taken on our visit to Hauser racing on the 4th. Some pictures were taken with my phone but most are from the phone of my wife as I was too busy chatting away and pointing at stuff saying "ooww shiney!" etc

That's me on the left and the guy in the overalls is called Jim. Jim has been working very hard on my car for nearly 18 months, and he's damn good at his job. Looking at oil pan, bell housing and prop shaft.

Looking towards the front of car, you can see the twin 2.5" exhausts before they were finished.

The transmission tunnel, with the new gearbox/stick, knob and power steering part. Also the handbrake has been relocated. All the dark grey paint on the tunnel is where large sections of car have been cut out, resized to fit the bulkier parts and rewelded together. I cannot overstate how neat and integrated the standard of workmanship is.

The roll cage, apparently this is all that is needed, so it means no scaffolding going across the doors, which will be much easier.

New radiator and fan

One side of the exhausts in front of the rear wheels, twin set on the other side.

The rest of the pictures are just wall-to-wall pictures of the engine and bay, it's just porn, as another member pointed out so forgive me splurging on the volume of pics.

PS. As of 12/11/2015, it is alive!

As this short clip shows...bare in mind this is fresh out of the crate and not tuned on a rolling road or anything like that.

The engine deciding to open the front throttles (which weren't attached to the throttle cable at the time) on it's own made me chuckle:

"Give me more air for F**** sake!"

The massive mattig claiming the engine it quite rightly deserves, unlike the fast car one, which was in in Ireland last I heard, may of had the big cc transplant by now.

Looks like mega manta has met its match:otakes me back to my mantzel evolution days.B)

Funny you mention the fast car manta as back in 1995 (I think) when I was looking for a suitable car that would take a V8 I bought that issue and it made up my mind; a manta it had to be for me. I didn't like the rally lights and steel wheels, but those curves!

It would be nice to think it got a better engine as I've always thought it a crime to keep the standard block in such a wild looking car.

I just googled the mega manta, interesting...though I'm not sold on it; the rear wheels appear to protrude from the arches and I'm not a fan of the removed pillar. I like the mirrors and the bug catcher, just a shame it's not supercharged and stuck with an auto box. As my mum (67) says: "If it's automatic you're not really driving the car."

Good call mate, however I thought not putting the mattig front end on and using the 400 pod was  a master stroke,if only to keep some manta recognition, but that was then, now I have grown to like the full mattig with its nose job.

I agree the pod helped keep it more manta looking, but at the time I always thought it would block airflow too much and the round headlights were quite common. I had never seen the twin square headlights of the mattig grille until I saw them in the PSG catalog. Kevin Abbot and Gary put me off the 400 bonnet, I think it went something like "It just lets water in" if I remember.

I was never a manta fan per say, I was too young to remember them rallying and I never saw the Manta Manta film until recently, and if I had that paint job might have put me off for life. I chose the manta for the looks of the mattig kit, the RWD setup and a good sized engine bay.

Having said that I've owned a manta since I could drive at 18 years old, so for nearly 20 years and I've had them standard, modified standard engines, complete engine changes to the old 16v redtop and now finally the dream is coming true. My taste is not to everyone's liking and I'm sure there are purists who would prefer it as stock, but it is finally getting to how I've always wanted it to be in my mind.

Its going to have serious road presence that's for sure, hearing it is one thing seeing it is just something else,it will have the automotive equivalent of the x factor.

Here's a pic of the fast car one,and one that's had a slight roof chop which transforms it.

Yup, that's the car that convinced me to go the way of the manta. Not seen this particular picture before from this angle, the front end is a bit low, then again this was probably taken before speed bumps were everywhere or maybe Ireland doesn't have so many. I just noticed the yellow bits, I don't remember them either.

I've had a new roof put on mine to replace the sunroof I didn't want, and the guy at the time asked me if I wanted a roof chop, I said no due to the problem with window replacements and I wasn't sure about banging my head etc. There's a blue one in Europe somewhere with an even more severe roof chop and it looks even more brutal/moody:

I love the look, seems like a supercar, but I don't like the plastic windows.

EDIT: Oops for some reason your 2nd and 3rd picture wont load, and now the 3rd one has I can see it's the same blue car as the one I posted. I believe it has a 3.0 under the hood and gets used as a pace/safety car.

It's just sad to see someone jealous of another persons dream wrecking it like that out of spite (I assume that's what's happened).

Ooooww, I've never seen a purple one before. Looks like it has the pirelli tyres on it too. That car is parked on a slant? or is the rear suspension messed up.

@Kevin

Yes mate that was the one I was thinking of, looks great without all the stickers on it. Has a straight 6 in it I believe, think I had a video somewhere on my PC of it doing a few burnouts, whole bonnet folds forwards and shows its tube frame chassis. I'm curious how he got the M3 mirrors attached, as I bought a pair many years ago and the mounting thingys are quite large compared to the mantas door mirror mount.

I must admit the blue one is my fave, aswell as yours mate. :lol:It carries the blue really well, and the roof chop is awesome.

Does look better without the redbull decals though, then there is the manta 400 wheels, which must be custom made rims/ 2 piece splits with hidden bolts?

as I thought the widest 400 wheel was 10" those will be 13" at least surely.B)

Anyway back to the mattig in question how is yours doing.:D
