manta88 Posted July 14, 2010 Author Share Posted July 14, 2010 Just a quick update ,i have not done alot to the car as Billing was coming up fast. Removed the headlights and dropped the fixings in some Bilt hamber Detox C,it worked well but took 2 days to remove all the rust. Brackets and lights ready for assembly. Headlights fitted and now working after replacing the rotten wiring. Fitted replacement ignition lock and stearing colum switch that i got from Adie at Billing who was selling Manta A parts at very reasonable prices to club members, thanks Adie. Just a few more electrical faults to sort out then the welding starts. Also found a new set of front indicators in the spares that came with the car as the original ones had dissolved. manta88 Posted September 25, 2010 Author Share Posted September 25, 2010 I have been busy with the A over the last few weeks, first job was replacing the rotten fuse box. Fitted a six way blade type box inside the original housing and now most of the electrics is ok. Next was the antifreeze and found all the heater pipes blocked. Replaced them all with some new silicon hoses and flushed the system out. Next the small bit of welding that always turns into alot of welding. New jacking points came in at 190 euros for a pair, so i had a crack at making them. Got the big bolt out ot the chassis rail after alot of swearing Then made three sections to repair the chassis rail. Finished that bit. Moved on to the back wheel arch looking for the seatbelt mounting points and found that it was fiberglassed in place It looks like i have abit more to do now. manta88 Posted February 6, 2011 Author Share Posted February 6, 2011 Started on the a again but had a change of plan, i was going to just do the repairs to get the car through an MOT and run it for a while, not sure if i have made the right decision but started to strip the hole car down and i am now going to go for a total restoration, glass out engine out respray and the rest Some of the repairs that kept the car on the road over the years ,have now gone by there sell by date and need doing again. Cheers mate ,the bad bits are realy bad but there are alot of very good bits. Removed the front and rear screens yesterday and there was only a couple of very minor rust spots under the rubbers ,also i have now got some new inner wing repair panels so i will be cutting out all the rust on the last few photos Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Below is what is left after a day with the angle grinder. It looked like the sill had been welded over the original one and so i was not too surprised to see the car had 4 sills Old sill and very old sill. Started the welding on the inner sill. Ready for some more welding.
