  1. Hi all, thanks for your replies - sorry for the slow response, had a bit of a busy couple of weeks. That was a very interesting document Jessopia74 - after following the instructions the car seems to be idling nicely again although I only had time for a quick test run today. I'm not sure if I'm fully out of the woods - it idled at 1000 rpm all the way from cold start to hot, except for when I stopped at one particular roundabout and it was nearer 1500 rpm - but oddly that only happened once. I think maybe I need to use some of the throttle cleaner on the throttle mechanism itself - it could be that it's not always returning fully to the idle position, and the matter of 1/2mm makes quite a difference.
  2. Hi all, I'm looking for an Idle Control Valve for a standard 1986 2.0E GTE. Mine's been playing up for a while and it seems to be quite badly scored. Anyone happen to have one available please? Thanks, Stuart
  3. Hi, Are we OK for the Bucket and Spade run on Sunday? I've had a split coolant hose this week but will have that sorted by the weekend. Stuart
  4. Excellent - that exactly it Thank you very much
  5. Still looking for one of these - anyone got one lying around please? Thanks Stuart
  6. Thank you very much. It is however looking like it's not the alternator at fault - so hopefully I won't need to source one after all. Best regards Stuart
  7. Ah. Out in the Manta recently I followed that yellow Cavalier around the roundabout at Sittingbourne Station.
  8. I know it's after the end of March now, but I could do the Bucket and Spade run if it's not too late. This year I'll be able to turn left without a 2p in the fusebox Stuart
  9. Hi mantadoc, The braided earth lead and engine earth strap were both replaced quite recently. When I measured the voltage between the +ve terminal of the Alternator and the -ve terminal of the battery (or indeed anywhere else earthed) I got the full reading of just over 14... so it did seem to me that the loss might be occurring somewhere on the +ve side rather than the earth. I'll try what you've suggested above to see if anything pops up... Best regards Stuart
  10. Hi all, I was trying to sort out the rear wiper today and the little plastic cover that goes over the nut broke into two pieces. Interestingly I could see no way in which these two pieces could be stuck back together again - just no way that they fitted together. Maybe it broke into 3 and the third part pinged away. Anyway, has anyone got one of those around please? Thanks Stuart
  11. Turns out that it's not the alternator, or the voltage regulator, at fault. Just over 14 volts measured directly there, but only 11.9 volts getting back to the battery. Ho hum.
  12. Hi Karl, Indeed it has. What time are you normally there until? Stuart
  13. Ooh. Volunteered to cook dinner for my sister's birthday on 2nd so 15.30 might be awkward. Detling's only 10 minutes away too Stuart
  14. Hi H-400, Oh, I didn't know that was even an option - I'll have a look. It was a reconditioned alternator that I fitted a couple of years back so it's not old by any means - the voltage was low right from the very start so I suspect it's more likely to be the regulator than the brushes. Thanks for the suggestion. Best regards Stuart
