There are two dates for the black and silver plates, the date the car is registered and the date the car is built

Unfortunately car was built 2nd week in jan 73, registered mar 73.
11 days older and it'd be tax exempt :(

Engine needs fine tuning and car needs a respray. I've given up trying to polish that turd. Its time to let the pros take over!

With white you can get away with loads paint wise, black is the demon, the slightest blemish shows up miles away :( Its been a long time in the making and you have a biggie smile that you saved another manta A which is becoming a rare breed :D

No Audi at Billing this year then mate? Jesus, if you're bringing a Manta then I'm going to have to turn up in something better than an Astravan this year!

Congratulations, must be an excellent feeling for all the work you've put in over the last few years to suddenly be worth it :)

It ran quite well until I stopped for a rest at blair atholl. after a couple mins, I was breaking out the fire extinguisher I had bought only 90 mins earlier to put out the engine fire!
Rubber T pieces for the fuel float bowl vent hose melted from exhaust manifold heat and caught fire. I suspect bike carbs are not a good idea for a CIH engine! was gonna get a heat shield/manifold blanket and replace the rubber t pieces with metal, but there is other rubber (diaphrams). Think I might need to switch to injection.

Oh no! Hope things arent too damaged then ?

If you wrap the exhaust manifold you need to change it to a steel tube one. The gauss iron becomes heavily insulated when wrapping them and can transfer the heat back to the cylinderhead. This can again effect ignition, and in severe cases cause the head to break.

Also a simple aluminium plate should be easy to turn into a exellent heat shield.

Not much damage at all. Still runs in its current state.
Got a heatshield sheet on its way. Good for 1000c!  Might whip off the exhaust wrap now tho!

Heatshield is on, car is running a bit better after messing with the timing (still want a pro to set it all up tho) Took it for a short spin last night. Want a new master cylinder as not comfortable with pedal travel, and want to adjust the clutch. Also had a quick play with my camera! :D

Would you believe from that photo that the front has 30mm lowering springs on and the rear is standard?
