Rob36 Posted August 16, 2016 Share Posted August 16, 2016 Hi guys! As in the title really. My '78 Cav Coupe is collecting water behind the windscreen sealing rubber down the drivers a pillar. Its leaking v slowly out of the bottom. I only noticed it yesterday, looks like its wet underneath the seal. all down the length of the pillar. Doesnt appear to be laking inside the car. Ive never tackled window seals really (bar removing bonded windows for racing), so not sure how best to tackle it given that new ones are unlikely to be available. Any one sorted a prob like this? andyc Posted August 16, 2016 Share Posted August 16, 2016 Best bet Rob is to find an independent windscreen fitter who can take the window out for you then let you fix any issues under the seal. mantadoc Posted October 3, 2016 Share Posted October 3, 2016 First rule of windscreen club, read the writing on it to see if it is toughened or laminated. A quick (non proper) job would be remove filler strip, get a mastic gun and tube f non setting seal sealer, run a bead round under the rubber edge onto the paint, run a bead round under the rubber edge onto the screen, replace the filler strip and clean off excess ignoring any water trapped in the channels. Alternatively remove and refit. Smooth PVC sleeved wire is better than rope.
