SOLD

** Comprehensive C20XE Engine Conversion Bundle For Sale **
.
OK, I don't really want to sell all this deep down, because if I wanted to find it all again, it would no doubt be a bloody nightmare!

But I'm giving up looking for a Manta 400R so no real need for it all...
--------------------
Here's what's included:
** 2.0 16V C20XE Engine - Been sat/turned over now and again, and turns nice and freely by hand.
** 1.8 Manta Gearbox - Bought from respected OMOC member.
** Brand new SBD Twin Weber 45 Inlet Manifold!
** Conversion (Alloy) engine mounts!
** 1.8 Manta Distributor setup with mount/pulleys!
** 1.8 Manta TCI unit.
** Alloy Big wing sump & pickup pipe!
** A dipstick?
** Brand new (Believed conversion) clutch kit/Release bearing.
** Propshaft -- Unsure which exact model Manta.
** Wiring loom and injection system/Injectors from XE.
** Manta pedal box!
** Original XE exhaust manifold.
** XE inlet manifold/Air box
** Some pipework
** A smaller flywheel which I believe is needed for conversion?
** Correct XE ECU and wiring, all connectors look good!
** Throttle cable.
** Clutch cable.
** Speedo cable.
** Heat shield.
** XE MAF sensor/housing.
--------------------
Price? As I'm not rushed to sell, and with there being a good 'collection' of sought after bits all together.

£1200.

Now just £1000 for the whole lot!

I think all that's needed (Apart from odds and sods/bits of pipework etc) is an exhaust manifold, or re-fabrication of the one included maybe...Not willing to split as I'm in no rush to sell at all, and I'd rather everything went as one lump seeing as I'm probably never going to own a Manta.
--------------------
Collection only from Burnley/Lancashire.
SOLD AS SEEN!
Light rebuild recommended! as I was going to do, and I'd suggest anybody else should do.

The lump, turns over easily by hand, all the inlet manifold studs and exhaust manifold studs look good. But personally I'd pop loads of nice new bits on it before throwing in a car. Has knock sensor, starter motor, alternator and some other bits. The dizzy bolts are missing (I've lost them after I removed dizzy to sit the engine in the bay of my Mk1 golf:lol:) Will probably be knocking about somewhere...

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%2016.jpg

Original inlet manifold and air box.

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%203.jpg

Original XE exhaust manifold and a Manta propshaft of some sort.

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%201.jpg

Manta 1800 Gearbox with mount and a release bearing. The clutch fork is inside the bellhousing too.

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%20%20gearbox

An 'Unused'! clutch kit. Comprising pressure plate and disc, they are what I assume is needed for the conversion. There's also a flywheel, much smaller than the one fitted to the XE engine. Some additional brackets and a dust cover plate shown as well.

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%204.jpg

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%205.jpg

Loom along with ECU, injector rail/Injectors/Fuel pressure regulator and ignition coil? All connectors look good.

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%209.jpg

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%208.jpg

Manta pedals and what I think is a throttle cable/bracket?

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%2010.jpg

MAF & some little leccy part and some spare XE conrods, although not in great shape

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%206.jpg

Getting to the rarer bits now...A brand new SBD twin 45 weber inlet manifold.

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%2015.jpg

Alloy engine mounts, pickup pipe and dipstick!

C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%2014.jpg

Manta 1800 dizzy setup and bracket, also with the TCI unit? plugged in! And another sprocket and belt!C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%2013.jpg

redtopengine7.jpg

Alloy big wing sump! And some sort of heat shield.C20XE%20Engine%20conversion%2011.jpg

Neil, don't give up on your dreams.

Yes I can say that having built myself (with the help of the forum and friends) a 400R, but in the last 11 years since I realised I wanted the car I have in my drive.

It has cost me a lot of heartache, time and sometimes sanity with it's build. There has been times when I wanted to jack it all in and move on, but it is still sat on my drive and I hope to use the fruits of my labour in time to come. I have some major hurdles in life to overcome and know that when they have gone I will still have my car and get out and enjoy my dreams. I bought my 1st Cavalier Coupe in 1990 and dreamt of a 400R with an XE one day and 15 years later my dreams started to take form.

Good luck on what you decide and I hope you keep that 400R dream alive as one will hopefully be around the next corner

Cheers for the kind 'Pokes of enthusiasm' guys, but I've had to just make a decision and try to stick with it. Every year I renew my membership so I can keep track on the classifieds. And every single day...day after day, I check all the usual sites, I even have 'Google alerts' setup so that I get an email any time the word 'Manta' appears in google search results:lol:But it's driving me insane...

I know some will think that I'm probably waiting for the perfect car, but with the way I accidentally fell into the Vw scene years ago, it's probably raised my expectations a little. For example, I've never owned a car that's been welded, or needed welding, hence it's one thing I've never had to learn.

So when it comes to Mantas I'm also then looking for something that doesn't need that kind of work. Not that I'm scared of doing work, but I've spent years doing cars up (Without needing welding admittedly) so wanted to buy something ready to go for a change, or at least being the right colour without any bodywork needed...Don't mind throwing a different engine in, doing any wiring etc. I've never bought a car 'Readily done' before but with the way Mantas rust, it's not something I'd like to tackle.

There's that...Plus the fact that going back a few years I missed out on some reasonably priced 400R's (Right colour etc!) that appeared when I'd just bought a house so couldn't find the cash.

Seems all the timing has been wrong and now as time goes on, it looks less and less likely to happen. The black 400R has been on ebay before and it just doesn't do it for me, my least fave colour and the rear arches put me off too.

It's crap because, I don't actually know if anybody else is so truly mental about Mantas like I am, I know people really like them, no doubt but...I can't even explain what just looking at pictures of 400's do to me.

All I can say is that when I was very young, I used to draw a car side on (Like you do as a kid) and it was a Manta, the perfect shape. The way the front wings sort of pull in towards the nose, the width and stance, the rear arches sat over where the power is emitted, the way the indicators at the back turn downwards to give that sort of sat down look...The twin headlights back in those days (Much more modern than any ford crap), the bonnet vents...

I dunno. Maybe I'm crazy, but I just don't think there's a better looking car ever been built (In my eyes of course). I can watch Manta magic over and over again (Had to eventually get it on DVD as the video was wearing thin) and it never fails to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It must be 30 years since I got my first Corgi mantas and used to pull the wheels out on them to make them look even more awesome, then imagine driving them...barking through the gears, sideways, slow motion the lot.

As for the XE engine, almost forgot about that sorry! It's been valued at £935-£1500, so I thought £1200 was a fair ballpark figure. The £1500 came from somebody on facebook who definitely handles a lot of bits like these, and the £935 here in another topic which I also appreciate as it gives the figure I've come up with a fair reasoning.

I sort of understand where you are coming from, I sold my Rover P6b and went in search of a Mk1 Golf cabriolet auto in a similar condition, in 18 months I kissed a lot of misdescribed frogs. I had seen Ben's Manta when it first went on sale and thought, "That looks knuckle bitingly pretty" but it wasn't a Golf, and it wasn't a Cabriolet. I then looked at Mk2 Cavalier Convertibles, and saw some right munters, then I remembered the Manta. I looked up the pics again, and had to have it, probably the easiest sale ever. It wasn't what I started looking for, but my expectations were too high and I wouldn't compromise. I'm glad I got the Manta though, it's a slow cruiser which is what I wanted, to act as a stable mate to my Mk1 Escort (which is currently on the naughty step with a snapped front strut)

Yeh as for mantas and rust & you not wanting to do work on it I think that's an impossible task. They all need work and unfortunately prices are up and won't drop so the chance of buying a 400r for cheap money is basically nil. One because their rare, two people know what they are worth and three because people like me, Carl. Kev etc also have alerts and contacts so we get them and restore, break or sell them on so cars generally don't come up in public places anymore and the ones that do are either in need of a lot of time, money and parts or are mint and dictate 1000s of pounds. So it's a lose lose situation for people such as yourself.

Out of interest, if you love them that much why not stick your neck out and buy the black one? It's sound structurally and is a good start?

John, you'd have liked my old Mk1 Golf Sportline Cabriolet I reckon. It was absolutely mint! Factory electric roof and windows, and had the superb red/black recaro interior. Wish I'd never sold it tbh...

Danny, I just don't want another black car, and the rear arches put me off. Regards actually finding a 400R, I wouldn't say it's impossible to find one not needing work, more finding one for sale in the first place? They are out there, not necessarily for sale right now, but they are out there. And of course they will be in varying condition like any other car...Some crappers, some half completed projects, some ready to roll. I've kicked myself for missing some half project ones in the past, when I couldn't commit to spending money...

But anyway, I do have first refusal on Wills. If it did/would have come up at what I consider fair money then I'd have been going to look at it.

But I need to stick by my decision, not a decision to take lightly when thousands of pounds are involved. It affects lots of other things obviously. Anyway, back on topic, bump for the XE setup haha!

Everything on the the black 400r is very nice with redtop on webers up front, the nice looking leather retrim, the revo's etc.....then...then you get to the rear arches which are hideously deformed to the point of making them unrecognizable as a 400 arch:o,these would have to be taken off new ones fitted the right way,and then the full team Ireland Austin McHale decal kit fitted, this would lift the total blackness of the car.All this could be done for an all in price of less than 10k which has got to be good for a 400r,which will only go up in value from there.

Is that a good plan or not to help volksdevil out of this.

Here's the car in question.

Looks like a good start that, I couldn't build it and sell it for that money, good parts on it too. I wonder why it hasn't been snapped up?

Aye, not a fan of constitution/governance...It breeds hierarchy, positions of power, greed, and forms 'Cliques'.

EDIT: I wrote a longer reply here that I've decided against, simply to keep the peace. But I just want to remind people that I've been a fully paid up member for a good few years now, without actually ever owning a Manta.

I want to thank @evo3000 because he has genuinely tried to help me find a car, his posts in my my topics etc haven't gone un-noticed, it's appreciated.

But anyway. I wanna keep this on topic please guys. I have to stick by my decision, it's literally been making me ill searching for a Manta and I actually feel relieved that the financial pressure is gone for one, and I'm not getting disappointed every day now because of the intensive searching.

So another bump on the XE bundle. Don't be worried about making OVNO's. (Or very near offers).

Thanks mate. I can't explain the stress and heartache me and my family are going through at the moment...

I've run out of tears, feel constantly physically sick and I don't know how I'm carrying on.

Really need to sell this now. I'll sell everything I own if I have to for the sake of my kids.
