The pictures are made with a cell-phone but I want to share them on this forum: There was also a lightweight M-400 body ready to build up, Escort Mk1 and Mk2 rally cars, Lotus Cortina, Porsche and some other nice stuff! H-400 Posted February 15, 2015 Author Share Posted February 15, 2015 Guy Colsoul did. This is an original 400 rally car. Colsoul is a well known Belgian rally driver. He was first in the 2-wheel driven catagory of Paris-Dakar with an Opel Manta-400. This is the Paris-Dakar 400, more than 30 years ago! Also a Bastos Manta. H-400 Posted February 17, 2015 Author Share Posted February 17, 2015 Those bull bars are specially for Africa, I've been some months over there and sometimes you can't stop when animals cross your way. And yes, it is because these things are usefull, not beautifull... About the sunroof: It open's the other way, the front goes up so it ventilates the inside. Differences between tarmac 400 and safari 400. And the driver, owner guy colsoul. I did read somewhere that carbs sucked in alot of the desert, and caused reliability problems. Also did they run volvo back axles.....? Which of the pics above is lightweight? One must be tarmac spec, manta without lamp pod. Safari is lamp pod and glass reversed sunroof! Is that correct? (The "S" in Bastos is hidden because of cigarette advertising rules) Another picture of the Dakar 400! @ brady: An interview with Colsoul is not easy, the man is very busy! I think the most important differences between the tarmac and Dakar 400 are that the suspension of the tarmac is lower, the engine of the Dakar has got less power because of reliability. About the sand sucking carbs, been over there and I think it can be a problem! Our engines have got cyclone-filters in dusty country's.The reversed sunroof was an invention of Guy himself. I didn't take any pics of the lightweight, had no fotocamera and the body was complete naked. About the Volvo axles: These days they are very popular, because original 400 axles are very rare and even Commo axles are expensive. Chris M Posted March 7, 2015 Share Posted March 7, 2015 The reverse sunroof was a clever idea as the Manta 400 did not have the best of ventilation to keep occupiers cool, even Mike Broad commented on that on the Manta Magic vid. Also the Dakar 400 had a huge runner board on the boot lid so co driver could stand on it and jump up and down to help aid traction in soft sand and mud.
