Opel Manta I200

Recommended Posts

On car and classic I have found an i200 for sale! Here: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C527963

I was looking at an auto hatch that is for sale and I saw this i200 at the top of the page and at first sight I had a suspicion that it was the i200 that came from France but it turns out that I have not seen this one before.

The things I would do for this car!!!

When I saw the other i200 come on Ebay which is the first one I have ever seen on Ebay, it was 5.5k and I had the same feeling. This one is in better condition though despite the one on Ebay having 22k on the mileometer. Cars like this are cars that I really want to own in my lifetime but It is the money that I can't get. Like I haven't got 8k to buy one, and the sad thing is the prices won't be coming down which means that young enthusiasts like me won't get the oppertunity the drive one which is the biggest shame.

I had my first i200 experience at Billing because Rab gave me a ride in his and it's because of the genuine people like Rab that gives people like me the amazing oppertunity to at least be in one for the first time in my life. So thanks Rab!

Jack.

p.s. I have always wondered why there is a Vauxhall Insignia next to your i200? Don't you mean Manta Exclusive?

That's rubbish jack, had my manta since I was 15 I am now nearly 27. You don't need a manta that costs thousands. Instead of wishing cars you want and telling us all why don't you buy one and start to restore it as you would like a manta to be? That's what most people on here have done and look at some of the brilliant cars within the club. Most were not bought mint. Blood, sweat, tears, money and a lot of time is what's needed. You don't need to rob a bank to have a manta, yes it helps but shoe string budget cars are just as cool. So get some tools bought, ideas thought and the eyes manta shopping Jack ;-)

That is what Sutty has done with his when I saw it at Billing. He originally paid £300 for his and then bought a used Corsa to use the Red top out of it. It is a really good way to get into the Manta scene if you have somewhere to put the Manta whilst you build it which I don't, Mind you I could always rent somewhere that is also a possibility. My original point isn't rubbish it's the reason I can't get myself an original i200 and have a long term experience with it and the same can be said for every other car on my infinite list. :)

Also if i'm honest I would love a car that I have built and not bought and built myself better than the manufacturer would have. The main thing is a place to have a restoration project otherwise it can be a good option for me and although I woudln't know where to start to begin with, the best way to learn is by doing it.

I love the i200,s just look spot on without going down the widearch route.

Could well be worth double the asking price in ten years time, sound investment,as are all mantas but the special editions will always be worth more.

Gone are the days when you could pick these up well below 5k.

I,m just off to see my bank manager lol.

Just thought i'd correct that for you Jack lad ;):D

Like Danny says. Its not about how much money you have.... Find a project and go from there. Learn as you go along. Plenty of people on here that can help you whether its over the phone or in person. My red hatch has seen more engines in my life time than ive had hot dinners this week... Get bored, change the engine. Simples.

Best place is to find a cheep project. Infact, what about the monaco blue GTE on ebay for £2000? Thats a bargain manta right there, idea first manta!!! Wish I had the £2k to buy it myself really..... although, my kitchen door and window have come in under budget...... lol

i think sutty is right there jack a good manta is in reach with the Mr carlos one.

Borrow 2k sell your clio?then pay off some of the loan.

Good route to a fully functioning road going manta, emphasis on road going.

Wish i could have made it that simple for myself, dam fool.

The Monaco Blue Exclusive on Ebay is really good and I like it just can't afford it right at this minute and if I had a garage so I could put a project Manta I could get the Dolphin Grey Hatch Manta on Ebay that is £395. So I may end up having to get a garage first so I can actually keep a project Manta in and then at least I will hae somewhere to work on it if needs be.

I will be using mine all the time anyway so maybe when I have got one runner I can get one that isn't a runner like the Dolphin Grey Hatch and then have two. One to work on and learn and another to use. :)

I know it is definately a really good way to get a Manta if you haven't got the money for a top one. I have looked into loans already and I have struggled to get one but back when I found the Blue Exclusive Hatch for sale for over 3k, that was when I was looking into it. I will have to look into it again. :)

Live and learn evo3000 eh? Mine was on it's way to the scrap yard so no chance it was on the road, I could see the road through the floors though haha

Your right there dan,but its our passion for the poor and crippled manta that will help keep the marquee alive,

there will always be a better one out there, but thats a good thing.

I hear what  your saying there jack, but i would really try and push for this one thats the Mr carlos one (off thread)

simply because you will not get better for your money, and with some work when you can afford it to get the car where it deserves to be,you can sell it on which should be more than you paid for it and get that coupe your after, job done.

You could always ask the old man for some cash lol.

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C518729 This one was on Ebay it's now moved but I think he may have stripped it for parts by now.

That one went weeks ago. Infact, It was nearly me that went to pick it up. Only an irish man beat me to it and as far as im aware its gone over the pond to fund another project. (which was my intention for it aswell)

Keep looking!

We all have to start somewhere, my dubious nova obsession got me into actually building and fabrication, I didn't have a clue with my first £50 gte when I was 16, gradually built up my tools over the years, working on them on driveways all year round ( welding upside down is not fun) always had a rolling project, cars covered in primer patches lol

My advice is start with a running mot'd vehicle, don't matter if it's rough or not An i200, build a copy! Do stuff to your abilities, I hear your helping with a project, good way to get experience, just got to get stuck in!

Yes thats right Paul I am helping out with my friends GT/E Coupe project that needs a restoration, it was saved from a scrapyard and when he sends me the pictures I am going to start a project thread with it. I want to post some pictures of his Gold hatchback for everyone to see as well when I get the pictures.

I have learned alot already and I think it's really interesting learning how they work and how they are put together. When we both go down next I think he is going to get me welding. :D

We spent the day on the sunroof and I am happy with the work we have done on it, it is bigger than the original and it is an electric tilt/slide roof that looks really good on the Manta. Next thing is to straighten out the roof at the back because it is dipped down and after that just about done with the roof, maybe move onto the floor.

Regards,

Jack.

Well that would be the sort of Manta I could get if I had a garage or storage space because it is a rare Manta in that color with an auto box.
