Just remembered a thing that I noticed when I took the cylinderhead off. There was some scratches on the cylinderwalls, the brotch marks from the factory is still there. So I figure that the engine haven't been running that much in 30 years. The odometer reads at 28000 km. Do you think it has rolled over so it is 128000km? Or is the number it says the truth?

Couldn't help my self. Left my daughter at my parents today. Thats where the manta is. Got the front suspention in bits and left the crossmember to my brother for blasting. Found a big rusthole in the "spring tube" to weld before paint.

New lowering springs and shorter sport shocks will be ordered when I have the money.

you can get aftermarket (or maybe original) "spring tubes" if yours is too far gone.

I am in the process of bead blasting my spare front axle for future spares.

Good luck with the project, I am starting to see light at the end of the tunnel with my car now, and it's getting brighter by the day B)

It's just a 2" by 3" patch to make. Nothing severe.  Maybe a 10 minute job. Found a hole in the lower springmount to when we blasted it. Nothing hard to fix with the welder.

As usual when it comes to rust, it always is more then it seems.
Posted Image

A big nice hole. Had to weld all the way around.

Posted Image

Posted Image

And a smal hole on the other side.

Posted Image

The lower spring seat was in a better state. But took a bigger piece out in case of.

This weekend I have pulled all the bushes out from the front suspention. Next weekend I'm planning to sandblast and paint it if the weather allows me too.

I also modified the getrag 5 speed to fit the 4 speed shifter hole. By shortening the shifter mounts and push rod with 6".

The 5 speed before modding.
Posted Image

The 4 speed that I used measurements from.
Posted Image

The final result. Looks wrong but it all adds up with the body and gearbox mountings.
Posted Image

Will sandblast and paint it next weekend as well. Hoping that my brother will join me with his oldsmobile parts. If the time is on my side I'm also blasting the rims, steering rack and flywheel.

When I took the tires of I found out that the spare was made May 1979! And it held air, 2.5 bar. And I haven't filled it ever. So it has held the air since at least 2001.

Today I've sandblasted and painted the front suspention parts. But thanks to a stupid fucker I took the wrong paint. Someone reused the primer bucket for a top coat... Just redo everything tomorrow :(

Got some outdoor work done yesterday. Took the remaining parts of the dashboard out.  Posted Image Posted Image

My wife helped me to remove the gastank. Found out why it has been smelling petrol in the car, all the went hoses where cracked. Just crumbled to pieces when I took on them.

Think I will take the wireing out too now when it's exposed and easy access. Just to check it for cracks and dry insulation.

Took the wireing out too. Found a few cracks in the insulation and it was very stiff. Will take it to my work and redraw all cables so It's fresh when I put it in again. No idea to take the risk when I can fix it now and be sure of the funktion later. Posted Image

Took some of the interior parts with me home for cleaning. Cleaned the door sides and the bottom of the rear seat. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Thanx. I've noticed that when I was looking after the centerconsole. Took two years before I found one on a fleemarket.

Done some work on the dash at hobbynight at work. The fastenings on the defrostermunstyckena outlets were bysted. Made two fingerclamps to replace the missing plastic.

And made a frame to the speakers in the center of the dash. Thought the original mountings where a bit weak for modern heavier speakers.

The whole dash cleaned and polished.
Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Both ears on the defroster outlets where broken.
Posted Image Posted Image

And the speaker support.

If my wife don't give birth to my new kid tomorrow I will take on the meters and gauges tomorrow night.

Started to polish the plastic and found a nice shiny plastic beneth the grit. Posted Image

Got a good finish on the meters and plastic details. Posted Image
It's as shiny so you can see the reflections of the gauges.

Thanx for the cheering words. The manta is going to look like it's rolled of the line yesterday when I'm finnished. Thats my goal.

Started to pack the dash for storage this evening. Found a few places I missed to clean. Around the fresh air vents among other tight corners.
