Its usually not too difficult to piece new steel in. That being said my welding isnt the best in the world and I'd have a go at most things but I bow to your skill/madness here[]! I'd have to agree with your advice to do 1 bit at a time, if nothing else to maintain structural strength, although your method also seems to work[8D]. My first car was a 1975 Kadett C that I bought in 1985 and needed quite alot of welding done.
